Liverpool sign Thiago Alcântara
Liverpool have announced the signing of Thiago Alcantara from Bayern Munich on a four-year deal for a fee in the region of £20 million which could rise to £25 million in add-ons.
The 29-year-old Spanish international joins the Premier League Champions after a summer of speculation linking him to the Anfield club.
Thiago is the club’s second signing of the summer transfer window after they signed Kostas Tsimikas earlier in the window and is very happy to be at the club.
"It's an amazing feeling. I was waiting for this moment for a long time and I am very happy to be here," he said.
The highly rated midfielder who has won two La Liga titles with Barcelona before moving to Bayern Munich in 2013. With the Bavarian club he won the Bundesliga seven times and won the Champions League with the club in August.
Thiago knows that the current climate, playing behind closed doors and a move to the Premier League will pose unique challenges.
"I must adapt to the team as fast as I can in the situation and the context that we are living right now.
"Everything is more compact and we started a little bit later, but still it is football and I think we have to mix all the big things up, all the good things we have.
"I will help the team in a defensive and offensive [way] and also in a mental aspect." Thiago added.
He will wear the number 6 shirt at Liverpool and could possibly make his debut for his new club against Lincoln City in the Carabao Cup.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is very happy that they have secured the signing of one the world’s top midfielder after a summer of speculation.
"Absolutely great - I'm really happy that it finally worked out and we could just do it," said manager Jurgen Klopp.
"I know all the people at Bayern wanted to keep him desperately. That's normal and understandable because he played an important role, in the last season as well.
"He just was ready for a new challenge and he decided for us." He added.
Thiago is a marque signing for the Premier League Champions and is one of the best signings of the summer transfer window. The fee will be paid in instalments over the length of the deal.
This is a signing that has been praised, with the Athletic’s Ralph Honigstein saying that Liverpool’s signing of Thiago was “Cheap for one of best midfielders in the world”.
Pep Guardiola made the signing of Thiago his first course of action when he first became manager of Bayern Munich, with Guardiola saying that it was “Thiago or no-one for me’.
Liverpool has secured the signing of one of the world’s best midfielders which will have a massive impact on the club and will sure to be the bargain of the transfer window.
