Whyte Splits from Trainer Tibbs
Dillian Whyte has split from his trainer of four years Mark Tibbs. Whyte has reeled off eleven consecutive wins with Tibbs in his corner. The split comes just a month before the Brixton man’s clash with Alexander Povetkin on August 22.
Whyte says that this was an amicable and was simply down to the differing situations of the pair.
“I'm training in Portugal, Mark has a young family and his own new gym in the UK," the heavyweight said on his Instagram.
"As it stands it just hasn't worked out in the way we both hoped it would… Mark came into my team four years ago and has helped me turn into the world class fighter I am today. Mark is a great trainer and I will always be grateful to him and his dad for all they have done.” Whyte continued.
Whyte will continue his training camp in Portugal before his pay-per-view fight with former-world title challenger and dangerous Russian Povetkin that is due to take place behind closed doors at Matchroom Headquarters which for August has been dubbed Fight Camp.
Whyte who sought Tibb’s guidance after his only defeat of his career to Anthony Joshua, has now split from his trainer. Whilst under Tibbs, Whyte was able to gain knowledge from Mark Tibb’s father and legendary trainer Jimmy Tibbs. Jimmy Tibbs trained greats of the sport such as Frank Bruno, Barry McGuigan and Nigel Benn.
Both father and son offered great experience to the Brixton man who was a very raw boxer when he joined Tibbs’ services. These four years have seen the WBC Mandatory challenger vastly improve and claim impressive wins over Derek Chisora, Oscar Rivas, Joseph Parkers and many others.
There will be a number of high-profile trainers that will be intrigued to work with Whyte, given his position in the rankings and his skillset.
