Gloucester sign Hastings following Cipriani departure

Gloucester Rugby have signed Scotland’s international fly-half Adam Hasting following the departure of Danny Cipriani from the club.

Today the club announced that they had parted ways with the exciting fly-half immediate effect after two and a half years at the Kingsholm club.

“After much deliberation. I have decided to leave Gloucester. I have mixed emotions about it. I am sad to leave a great club, but I’m excited for the challenges I have ahead.” Said the 33-year-old said on social media.

Cipriani started his playing career at Wasps and then joined the Australian side Melbourne Rebels in 2010. Cipriani moved back to the Premiership with Sale and then moved back to Wasps before his move to Gloucester.

Cipriani has amassed 16 England caps over the course of his career and looked to add to that tally after a great run of form for the Cherry and Whites in 2018.

The Englishman’s exit from Kingsholm is part of wider clear out by the club. He follows Ruan Ackermann, David Humphreys, Franco Mostert, and Ruan Dreyer who have all left the club in the summer.

Gloucester Head Coach George Skivington thanked the England international for his time at the club. Danny has been playing at the top of his game for over a decade now. His reputation in the game is undisputed.

"It has been a pleasure to have been a part of Danny's career at Gloucester and I wish him well for his next challenge." Said Skivington.

Soon after the club announced Cipriani’s departure, they announced the signing of Scotland and Glasgow Warriors fly-half Adam Hastings.

Hastings will join the West Country club for the 2021-2022 season.

Skivington was pleased with the signing of an international calibre fly-half such as Hastings. Adam has matured as a player impeccably over the last couple of years.

"He has developed into a top international fly-half. The most exciting part for us is that he's still got plenty of room for development as well.

"With Adam, Lloyd Evans and George Barton coming through as well, it's an area in our squad that we believe has a huge amount of promise in the immediate, but also long-term future." Added Skivington.

Hastings has been a key player Scotland, earning 22 caps and scoring 96 points over the last three years. He was pivotal in the early stages of their Six Nations Campaign in the absence of Finn Russell.

The 24-year-old in pleased to be joining the Cherry and Whites next season. “I’m really looking forward to linking up with Gloucester next season. The vision that George & Alex [Brown] presented to me was an opportunity too good to turn down, and I’m eager to play my part in a bright future for the Club.

“There’s still plenty more rugby ahead of me this season, but when the time comes, I look forward to pulling on the Cherry & White.” Added Hastings.

The Scottish international will complete the remainder of the season with the Glasgow Warriors.
