Liverpool Sign Dutch Teenager
Liverpool have announced their first signing of the summer transfer window with teenager Sepp van den Berg for an initial £1.3 million with the fee potentially rising to £4.3 million from PEC Zwolle.
The promising young central defender was wanted by some of the biggest teams in Europe with Ajax and Bayern Munich lining up as potential suitors for the Dutch defender.
The 17-year-old amassed 15 appearances last year for the Dutch side and his transfer to Liverpool sees him join fellow countrymen Virgil van Dijk, Georginio Wijnaldum and academy prospect Ki-Jana Hoover who featured in the FA Cup tie against Wolverhampton this season.
The signing of van den Berg sets Liverpool up with a bright future; he joins fellow young defenders at Liverpool which will serve them well for years to come. He joins Joe Gomez, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Andy Robertson and Ki-Jana Hoover who are all under the age of 25.
Sepp van den Berg himself is very excited to join such a big club, “It’s just amazing. It is, for me, the biggest club in the world and it’s a dream come true. I am really excited.” He sees Liverpool as the club that will help him improve as a player, “I was thinking about [the idea of] training with Virgil. For me he is the best defender in the world right now, so I can learn a lot from him.”
